As I mentioned before, I got my first package of gold leaf. I had to. I mean really, what took me so long!? Thank goodness, I actually wanted that rustic, torn, imperfect look. That stuff is quite hard to work with! A little tutorial (aka, don’t do what I did/how I learned the hard way) is coming soon!
I was asked recently how I “think up” these collages, and whether or not they have deeper meaning to me. Sometimes I have a message on my heart and a piece of artwork is born out of that thought. And other times, I have a design concept in my head, and a meaning comes out of the process. Regardless of which comes first, I really try to make sure all of my collages have layers of meaning and poetry woven into them.
“Hidden Treasure” tells the story of unexpected discovery, of finding something so valuable and precious, you will do whatever is needed to secure it. Jesus once said that the kingdom of heaven is life a treasure buried in a field. A man found it, and, of course, became crazy excited. He re-hid the treasure, sold everything he had, and bought the field.
“There will Your Heart Be Also” (below) is the completion of that story: Your heart is where we hold all of our real treasures. Keep your heart centered on God, goodness, grace, and love, and you will have a valuable and insanely beautiful treasure. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
I hope you have a beautiful day!
I love this and the meaning behind it, such a great project!
