The Making of a Fine Art Collage NECKLACE

Hey everyone!
There are a few new and exciting thing going on over here. One involves me making many, many, many tiny paintings (which is totally fine with me!). I am breaking out into the wonderful, strange world of wholesale! There are still several key steps for me to take before I’ll really be diving into this, but things are moving along and I am beyond excited to be able to offer my lovely little necklaces in shops and boutiques!
–PS. If you know of a shop in your area that these necklaces world fit perfectly in, please share!–
You can find these necklaces in my shop: www.EmilyJeffords.com (Which, by the way, is freshly updated and totally beautiful!)

There pretty things might look all delicate and fragile, but don’t let them fool you! Seriously. I didn’t want to scream this out loud for all the world to hear until I was sure. But, now, I can safely say that you can wear one of these collage necklaces every day without any cause for tears. I know, because I think I’ve worn mine every day for, umm, like 7 months (in hot, humid, ocean-y Charleston!) So, test over, people! These pretty babies are tough.
The ink is more like a dye than paint, the papers are sealed, the chain is super high quality, all the finding are made beautifully, and everything is attached with a magical adhesive that doesn’t ever want to let go (of anything ever….)
These fine art necklaces are such fun to dream up and create! I just love my job…

Check back tomorrow! We’re going to do our first business post in the “Art at Work” collection. I think it’s going to be quite helpful.
PS. wasn’t Flora’s interview great! She was so informative and helpful. I’d like to say a huge “Thank you” to WordPress for including that post in the “Freshly Pressed” collection! Such an honor!

These are SO cool! is the twine/yard under varnish too? I’m curious how you keep that from getting yucky, I would think if you used too serious a varnish on a material like wool yarn that it would just fall apart, but I guess not! I really love these. Someone special will be getting a fine art necklace for a present very soon!
Hey! The papers are all sealed with a clear acrylic layer. It’s not thick, so the textures and tones still show through, but it protects them from oils and nastiness. The cloth isn’t sealed as that would mess up the texture and the softness of the fibers. It actually stays very clean looking! Everything is attached with a crazy strong binding agent that also helps keep dirt out of the fibers. Of course, all the ends are sealed to prevent fraying, but the soft texture is very important to the over all design.
I’m so glad you like them! I completely love wearing mine and get compliments on them every time! People have the hardest time believing that they’re looking at a tiny original painting. It’s pretty fun. ; )
I love your picture frame jewelry and I think that it is wonderful that you put so much time in to perfect your craft.
