Snow, Christmas, Peace, and Happy Memories

I’m back! My gracious what a wonderful Christmas break! Thank you for being so understanding with my scattered posts (or lack there of!) and infrequent presence on twitter and facebook! I have greatly enjoyed my time off. It’s been refreshing, relaxing, and energizing.

Christmas is always a special time for our family. We absolutely love giving gifts to each other. It’s getting a little ridiculous, actually. Now that all of my siblings are getting older, and are able to buy gifts more freely, the gifting part of Christmas takes hours. Not that I’m complaining!

The Christmas season is even more fun now that I have kids. They are so full of wonder and excitement.
While we were visiting my parents there was a blizzard! It lasted only a day and left us with several inches, so my girls got to really play in the snow for the first time. Wow, those girls can definitely stand being cold way longer than I can! Must be the endless energy and layers and layers of clothing I kept adding (we don’t exactly need snow suits in Charleston…)

This year, I was amazed, once again, by the Christmas story. Looking at those events through the eyes of a parent dramatically changes my perspective on Luke 2. The sacrifices made by every person in the story are enormous and beautiful. Reminding myself of this gave this crazy holiday season meaning and purpose. It is a beautiful time full of so much love and grace.

What are your favorite memories from Christmas 2012?

Mine are:Snow days with my family
Christmas-eve dinner with extended family (always such a blast!)
Getting to spend so much time with my sibling (I miss them living so far away!)
Watching my little girls play and laugh to their hart’s content
Cooking with my mom
The Barefoot Contessa Feast (think 20 dishes, one Ina Garten cookbook, 10 chefs, one large kitchen. SO FUN!)
Visiting my grandparents farm for the last time (more on that soon!)
Resting. Taking a break from creativity to refresh myself.

WE DID! Snow is so foreign for us so it was great to spend a week in it.

I am from Arizona… I moved to Arkansas a year ago right after getting married. I had my first White Christmas this year and I looooved it! We didn’t get as much as you did, but I soaked it up and everyone thought I was crazy. My husband just stood there laughing at me as I ran around our yard kicking fluffy snow into the air!
