My happy space: My Art Studio

October 30, 2012

Hey!  I have a couple of studio tours and interviews coming up on different blogs (I’ll post the links when they’re live!) and I realized I’ve never shown you, my very own dear readers, my studio!  This is where I spend so much of my work and creative time.  I love this room.  Not because it’s glamorous or super well designed, or has all the architectural features I would like, but because it’s my creative space.  It works so perfectly for me.

Things you will always find in this room:

Coffee (fresh preferably!)
Tiny scraps of paper in the floor.
At least three pretty little vignettes displaying some of the work for sale online (one of the perks!)
Clutter.  It’s true.  I think I’m a neat person, and neat areas are visually VERY important for me.  But I’m a paper stacker and hoarded of small scraps of fabric.
At least three projects “in-the-works”.  I tend to float around three-four ideas at once.
Dark chocolate ice cream (a MUST for my 9:00-pm-2:00am work hours!)
Me.  In my element, loving my work.

Nice studio, I love the red chalkboard! I have to say clutter is visually important to me, though. I like scads of pretty things for my eyes to rest on.

Thank you Melody! I agree. I always think I should be a minimalistic, neat freak… but I’m just not! And I think I like it that way. Glad I’m not alone!

Wow is your studio always this tidy!? It’s really lovely and It puts my clutter to shame, maybe its time for a winter-clean!

Wow your studio is lovely! Is it always this tidy & organised?
I think you’ve inspired me to do a de-clutter… if only i could part with all those scraps that may come in handy one day…

Haha! The beautiful thing about a photograph is I can scoot things outside if the shot ( like the bits of pretty papers that are always hanging around)! So handy… But yes, it’s so nice to have a freshly cleaned studio!

Reblogged this on KOTHEA The Fabric Blog and commented:
I won’t show my partner this one. Any excuse to get the blackboard paint out is BAD news for me.

Your studio looks great. It is obvious that you put much heart in it, and it looks like a great place to work!

I love the idea of having a studio! Is it separate from your house? When did you first feel like it was time to create your own space?

My studio is a spare bedroom in our home. It’s perfect for me because I have two small girls so having a home studio allows me to stay home with them. Win win! I knew I needed a studio space when my artwork started taking over our entire home. It was time to define a space and it’s been so helpful and enjoyable.

What a great art studio. I love creating and then re-creating my writing/photo space, it helps inspire me when I am at a loss about what to write.
    Great job.

Now it's your turn to talk!
