Artist Showcase: Mark Powell + his biro drawings

June 27, 2012

Hello wonderful readers!

Aren’t these drawing fantastic?  Artist Mark Powell seems to be quite enamored with shapes, textures, and lines, and rightfully so!  I love the details and realism he achieves.  These drawings are all done on vintage envelopes, stamps, markings and all, (brilliant) and are created with a Biro ball point pen!  So, moral of the story, you can make outstanding artwork out of literally anything you have on hand.  I forget this all the time!!

Mark Powell is based in London, loves to draw elderly people, amazing birds, and “often run into the sea”.  Check out his work on his website and (if you’re interested in prints!!) on the Society6 website!

I love how he merges the drawings of birds with the postage stamp/mail letter theme. Amazing attention to detail!
